India and Mongolia : Added flowers in Foreign Policy

India and Mongolia shares a historic cultural roots. In 12th and 19th century many Mongolian Kings have declared themselves as Chacravatin Khan which shows how deeply Indian and Mongolian sentiments are linked.

Mongolia's transformation from communism  to Buddhism made it more culturally closer to India.

 Mongolia is located at strategic location. It is on the junction of Central and North East Asia access routes. It's proximity to Central Asia and Afghanistan makes it more important form strategic point of view.

India historically backed Mongolia in International Forum since 10th UN General Assembly, India is strongly advocating for UN Membership for Mongolia and this request was made by Jawaharlal Nehru. India also supported Mongolian stand over Non Alignment Movement. These two issues have irked the China. Bhutan and Mongolia together sponsored the UN resolution for declaring, Bangladesh as free and Independent State which caused bitter relation between Pakistan and Mongolia.

Recent intervention of India to engage Mongolia is being seen from China point of view, but this view does not acknowledge the interest of the Mongolia. Mongolia is a resource (coal, iron, gold, Uranium) rich nation. Russia and China investing in vigorously. India also putting initiative in place to offer mining technology and most importantly India's aim is to develop Mongolia's Gold mine. Mongolia also have rich Uranium Reserve which can serve India's Energy Security needs. But it is not economic viable for India to import resources form Mongolia (except uranium).

US, Russia, China have also been interested in Mongolia due to various reasons but cultural ties with the India puts us in advantageous position, Investment from china is highly exploitive in nature. Therefore, general population have a dissent for China. Indian intervention through Credit, Technology, Skilled Labor, Support in International Forums will help India to attain a better position and this will benefit India and Russia relation in many ways. At last but not least China perspective for deeper relation with Mongolia is most important and can be realized only when Mongolia is strong and prosperous nation.
